Diego Simeone is demanding his Atletico Madrid team raise their performance level despite closing to within seven points of Barcelona.
Los Rojiblancos have won nine of their last 11 La Liga outings with Saturday’s victory at Malaga, coupled with Barca’s draw with Getafe, leading to talk of a possible title race.
“The truth is we must continue to improve, but at least we are winning and when you are in that position, improvements are easier,” Simeone is quoted as saying by Marca.
“We have made important strides in terms of increasing our points against tough opponents, and Saturday was important as we got the early goal to settle us down.
“We would have liked to continue to play at a very high level and score more goals, and that is something we must work on for our next games.
“We aren’t looking at any other teams, we are only focused on ourselves and increasing the points tally we finished last season with.
“To not play well and win is important, but if we want to go higher we must do more.”
