Kepa Arrizabalaga insists he had “no doubts” that Athletic Bilbao fans would take to him again after he was heavily linked with Real Madrid.
Kepa made his first appearance for Athletic since December 10 during Athletic’s goalless draw with lowly Las Palmas on Friday, and the goalkeeper reflected on his comeback from a foot injury and those Madrid rumours – which were ended by him signing a seven-year extension.
“The fans welcomed me back very well, although I had no doubts that they would,” he told Onda Cero.
“What I did have doubts about was how my body would respond after the injury, but I felt good.
“It hasn’t been a bad time for me. Lots of things have been said and I tried not to listen to it, but I ended up hearing everything
“My final verdict is that I’m here and I’ve extended my contract for eight years. My position has always been to stay out of it all.
“If I had to deny or confirm everything that was said about me, I’d be in the Press every day.”
