Zinedine Zidane insists “I don’t know why” Karim Benzema was whistled after Real Madrid’s 5-2 win against Real Sociedad on Saturday.
Benzema was targeted by Madrid fans after the final whistle following his failure to find the back of the net, despite having chances, but Zidane saw positives in his fellow Frenchman’s performance.
“The best thing [about our performance] was that we did well from the start,” the Coach said after the game.
“We played with determination and intensity throughout the first half. We can be happy and can prepare for Wednesday’s match very well.
“Ronaldo? We’re happy with him. On Friday. I was asked if I was worried about his lack of goals and he scored three…
“Defensive errors? We have to correct certain things, especially from the second half, but I’ll take the positives - the five goals and how we started.
“On Wednesday, it’ll be another game and we’ll have to apply even more desire. Whistles to Benzema? I don’t know why it is, but the fans can do what they want.
“Karim had chances, but for him the important thing is the next game and that his luck will change. He ran a lot... but the fans can do what they want.
“Motivation for the Champions League? We need to think about Wednesday. It’s a big challenge for everyone. It’s another competition and another source of motivation for us. Well be very motivated.
“My XI for PSG? I know who will play on Wednesday. We’re all prepared and that’s the most important thing.
“Marcelo? I’m happy with his performance. He gives us a lot going forward.”
