Angel Di Maria admits he was ‘really close’ to joining Barcelona last year after a move from Paris Saint-Germain broke down.
The Argentine winger, who left Real Madrid in the summer of 2014, was reportedly close to joining the Catalan giants in a big money transfer last summer, which never came to fruition.
“My move to Barca was really close but ultimately it did not go through,” Di Maria told Tyc Sports in Argentina, as cited by Diario Sports.
“I have started the year on a really good level and I am very happy, that I am assisting goals is great because I prefer that to scoring!
“Lionel Messi? He’s the best every year, it’s always the same. Cristiano Ronaldo is special but Messi is from another planet.”
