Martinez chooses Inter over Madrid?

Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have both reportedly missed out on Racing club striker Lautaro Martinez, who is set to join Inter.

In December there were widespread that the 20-year-old had agreed to join Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2018, which had appeared to be confirmed by his agent.

However, Racing Club’s president Victor Blanco has now appeared to confirm the forward will join the Nerazzurri in summer in a deal worth €27m.

The Argentine Under-20 striker, who is hopeful in winning a spot in his nation’s World Cup squad this year, is also said to have attracted strong interest from Borussia Dortmund and Monaco but signed a new deal with the Argentine outfit last year.

“Lautaro Martinez has expressed his desire to play for Inter,” President Blanco told Fox Sports Argentina.

“We want to make him happy, but he will certainly remain here until June. The total cost of the deal will be worth over $33m (circa €27m).

“We’re currently negotiating over the percentage of his sell-on fee. He’ll no doubt have a release clause of at least €110m, so that could generate a very important sum for Racing in future.”
