Celta close to Lobotka renewal

Celta Vigo are close to agreeing a contract renewal with Slovakian midfielder Stanislav Lobotka, according to reports in Spain.

The 23-year-old has made 24 La Liga appearances for the Galician side since joining from Danish club Nordsjaelland and has impressed at both club and international level for Slovakia.

Now a report in Faro de Vigo underlines the club are willing to increase the midfielder’s contract length and wages, in order to ‘significantly increase’ his €35m release clause.

“Inter were very interested in Stanislav, but we told them we would not negotiate below a clause,” the club’s sporting director Felipe Minambres was cited as saying by El Desmarque this week.

“He has always indicated to us that he is happy at the club and does not wish to move elsewhere, he is happy and does not want to leave so this was good news for both him and the club that he stayed.

“Our intention was always to keep him due to his personality and his performance level, and we have spoken to his representatives to improve his salary and lengthen his stay at Celta.

“We want to improve his salary and increase his clause, to us that makes total sense.”
