Giroud: Sevilla wanted me

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has revealed Sevilla were one of a number of clubs attempting to sign him last week from Arsenal.

The French international eventually joined the English champions in a deal worth a reported €18m, but Los Rojiblancos are also said to have held an interest.

“Dortmund were interested, but only in a loan deal, while Sevilla and Roma both called my agent,” Giroud told Telefoot, as cited by Estadio Deportivo.

“A week ago I spoke with (French Coach Didier) Deschamps, because I wanted to hear his thoughts – but he did not encourage me to sign for Chelsea.”

Sevilla eventually signed Everton striker Sandro Ramirez on a loan deal, while also completing moves for Porto defender Miguel Layun and Swansea City’s Roque Mesa.
