Marcelino: Valencia will try to be heroes

Valencia ‘will try to be heroes’ in their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg clash with Barcelona next week, states Coach Marcelino.

Los Che narrowly lost the first leg 1-0 at the Camp Nou on Thursday and will aim to break Barca’s stranglehold over the competition in recent years.

“It was a strong performance from us but not a good result,” Marcelino told reporters after the match, as cited by Marca.

“It will be very difficult for us to progress but not impossible and we will try to be heroes, we believe the tie is still open and we have hope.

“Playing at the Mestalla will benefit us and the fans will be big, hopefully we will be the third team to shutout Barca this season.

“It was difficult without so many players – Guedes, Zaza, Murillo, Kondogbia and Garay, and we hope to have these players back soon.

“Containing Barca and especially Lionel Messi takes a lot of work but we managed it reasonably well throughout the game.”
