Rico blunder lifts Leganes

Leganes kept hopes of a Copa final alive as Dimitris Siovas took advantage of a Sergio Rico error to draw 1-1 with Sevilla in the semi-final first leg at Butarque.

Luis Muriel had given Sevilla a first-half lead to seemingly put them on course for a first leg victory, but the Greek defender headed in following a goalkeeping blunder.

Ever Banega fired a warning shot after 10 minutes for the visitors, dragging the ball across the face of goal with a low right-footed shot.

In the 20th minute, Vincenzo Montella’s side took the lead as Colombian Muriel produced a left-footed finish past Nereo Champagne after Pablo Sarabia’s assist.

The game was lined with tension and anxiety but the hosts fought back ten minutes into the second half when a corner was not caught by Rico and Siovas was on hand to head home the equaliser.

The two will play the decisive second leg at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan next week for a place in the showpiece, against Barcelona or Valencia.
