New Sevilla defender Miguel Layun wants to stay at the club ‘for many years’ after completing his move from FC Porto.
The Mexican international had fallen out of favour at the Portuguese giants, making only two starts for the Portuguese league leaders this season.
He had long been linked with a move to Real Betis, who now must switch attention to other targets after being trumped by their city rivals.
“My aim is to play at Sevilla for many years and enjoy lots of success,” Layun told official club media.
“We have lots of objectives at this club, we want to fight for our place in the Champions League spots and to push on to win the Copa del Rey – a club like this deserves that sort of success.
“I can adapt to different positions, I can play on either the right or left-hand side of defence but in the European knockout tie against Borussia Dortmund I was used as a central defender.”
The 29-year-old had also been linked with a move to Alaves, while Celta Vigo and Deportivo La Coruna had reportedly previously held an interest.
Layun spent twelve months in England with Watford before moving to Porto in 2016 and is said to be available on an affordable permanent transfer or as a loan deal.
