Alaves fume after penalty ‘scandal’

John Guidetti has demanded VAR in La Liga after Alaves were denied a 'clear' penalty against Barcelona, while their President branded the incident a 'scandal'.

Samuel Umtiti blocked a shot with his hand in Barca's box towards the end of Sunday's match at Camp Nou, but the referee chose not to award Alaves the penalty as the Catalans went on to win 2-1.

“We had a clear penalty. It's a penalty, it's a penalty, it's a penalty!” he told Movistar Partidazo after the game.

“If you play against the best teams in the world, you have to be lucky. I've talked to my teammates and it's a very clear hand. For me, we need VAR in Spain.

“We played very well, but with a little more luck, we'd have certainly got more from the game.”

President Fernandez de Trocones added: “The result wasn't positive due to reasons out of Alaves' control. It's a scandal.

“The whole world saw the handball, it was clear. A handball inside the area is a penalty.”
