Guaita passes Palace medical

Crystal Palace have triggered the €8m release clause of Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, who now looks set to join the club this week.

The 30-year-old has been out of the Madrid-based club’s side in recent weeks due to being unsettled by a previous failure by the parties involved to conclude a deal.

Marca report he has already undergone his medical at Selhurst Park and that a deal is expected to be confirmed imminently.

Reports across the Spanish press earlier this month had suggested Getafe rejected a €4m offer from Roy Hodgson’s side, who are keen on an upgrade to current goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy and Julian Speroni.

Guaita – who is out of contract at the end of the season – had started 17 La Liga matches this season for Getafe and has kept six clean sheets, including in all four of his most recent games.
