La Liga ‘signs’ nine Saudi players

Seven Spanish clubs who have been selected as the destination for Saudi Arabian players will be given an incentive of €1m each, say reports in Spain.

La Liga trio Villarreal, Leganes and Levante have all been selected by the league’s governing body as clubs to incorporate the new arrivals, along with Sporting Gijon, Numancia, Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid from the second tier.

El Transistor report that each club will be given the lump sum to incorporate the players into their squads at request of the league, rather than the individual clubs.

Midfielder Salem Al Dawsari will join Villarreal, while Leganes signed forward Yahia Al-Shehri. Levante signed Fahad Al-Muwallad.

Saudi Arabia will play the opening game of the 2018 World Cup against hosts Russia after qualifying for the tournament for the first time since 2006.
