Bale: Madrid never gave up

Gareth Bale insists Real Madrid “have never given up” on defending their Liga crown after Sunday’s 7-1 thrashing of Deportivo La Coruna.

The BBC finally reunited against Depor, with Bale helping himself to a brace, although Madrid remained 19 points off the pace in the title race after Barcelona’s 5-0 win at Real Betis.

“I’m happy to play again, be at this level and keep improving,” he said after the game.

“There are still big games to come, and of course I want to play in these types of matches and win them.

“I feel good, I’m still not 100 percent, but little by little I’ll get back to my best possible shape.

“I think we’ll bounce back, but little by little and step by step. We must keep working hard and keep winning.

“We have to be realistic about the League, but we’ve never given up and we have to start winning games.

“BBC? Playing with Karim and Cristiano again makes me happy. I’m glad that I can play with them and help them score goals.”
