Seventh heaven for Madrid

Real Madrid made a triumphant return to form in La Liga as they demolished Deportivo La Coruna 7-1 on Sunday.

Adrian Lopez gave Depor a shock lead early in the first half, but Nacho Fernandez, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo each helped themselves to a brace as Madrid recorded their biggest win of the season to move back into the Champions League places.

Benzema returned after three weeks out with a hamstring injury, but he was benched for Borja Mayoral, who partnered Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo up top.

Los Blancos had gone three home games without a win, and they fell behind in just the 23rd minute, when Lucas Perez got in behind and pulled back for an Adrian tap-in.

Yet just nine minutes later, Nacho fired in a shot from 15 yards out, before Bale stole the show, curling home an unstoppable strike, to put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half-time.

That goal opened the floodgates for Madrid as Bale climbed highest to head in a cross on the hour mark, followed by Luka Modric unleashing a piledriver for his first League goal in 15 months.

Ronaldo had a header saved and slotted wide from a yard out, making it seem likely that he would go a fifth Liga game without a goal.

However, the Portuguese was at the right place at the right time to flick Bale's deep cross into the back of Ruben Martinez's net, before executing a similar finish six minutes later.

The rout was rounded off by Nacho, who showed a striker's instinct once more, swivelling at the far post and going on to volley home for his brace.
