Schalke have confirmed midfielder Leon Goretzka – a reported transfer target for Barcelona – will join Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
The Bundesliga club’s sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed today that the German international has agreed a move to the Bavarian club.
“Leon Goretzka informed us at the beginning of this week that he wishes to leave the club to join Bayern Munich,” Heidel told club official media.
“We regret that. Yesterday Karl-Heinz Rummenigge informed us that Leon had his medical. We lose a very good player.
“He signed at Bayern a contract starting from 1. July 2018. We did everything to keep Leon at Schalke.
“Last summer there was no agreement with him and his agent. He wanted more time to see the sportical development.
“We can deal with this situation, it was not a total surprise. We are prepared.”
