Paco: Las Palmas a ‘disgrace’

Paco Jemez has issued a public apology to Las Palmas fans after the side’s ‘disgraceful’ 6-0 hammering by Girona on Saturday.

Michael Olunga’s [pictured] hat-trick led the Girona charge to leave Las Palmas seven points adrift at the bottom of La Liga, and Jemez took responsibility for the heavy defeat.

“What happened on the pitch was a disgrace,” he said after the game.

“We did things very badly, myself more than the players. We apologise to the fans.

“This result is what it is, more for my failures than those of the team. After their second goal, the team collapsed due to us not believing we could come back.

“I assume responsibility. We have the second round to come, and we’ll work hard and fight to get things moving.”

Opposite number Pablo Machin riposted: “It’s a historic victory for us.

“I wouldn’t have believed it if someone told me we’d win a game 6-0. Finishing the first round with 26 points seemed unrealistic at the beginning of the season, but we’ve done it thanks to the work of everyone.”
