Barca finally reign Anoeta

Barcelona came back from 2-0 down to beat Real Sociedad 4-2 on Sunday and win at Anoeta in La Liga for the first time in over a decade.

Willian Jose and Juanmi had given La Real the lead, but Luis Suarez's first goals in San Sebastian and a Lionel Messi 'golazo' completed a turnaround for Barca, who moved 19 points clear of arch-rivals at the top of the table.

The Catalans last beat Los Txuriurdin away from home in March 2007, while Lionel Messi was famously dropped from their XI during a 1-0 defeat three years ago.

With only one win in their last seven games and his side struggling in 14th place, the pressure was mounting on former Barca midfielder Eusebio Sacristan, who was overseeing his 100th game as La Real Coach.

However, his players made a flying start against the leaders as a deep cross evaded Barca's defenders and was bounced home by the head of Willian Jose.

The former Real Madrid striker could’ve bagged his second of the evening, when his shot deflected in via Gerard Pique, but Ivan Rakitic was debatably deemed to have been fouled in the goal’s build-up.

Nonetheless, former Southampton striker Juanmi was able to double the hosts’ lead, bending his run to take on a reverse pass, before his near-post finish diverted past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Yet just two minutes later, Suarez’s cutback was slotted home by Paulinho for his eighth goal of the season.

The Brazilian’s finish seemed to take the wind out of La Real’s sails, and Suarez went on to draw the Blaugrana level, delightfully curling a first-time effort over Rulli for his first-ever goal at Anoeta.

Barca finally went ahead with 20 minutes remaining, when Thomas Vermaelen’s towering header fell to the No 9. He then sprung the Basques’ offside trap and coolly poked the ball past his fellow South American.

With the result signed and sealed, it was up to Messi to deliver it with a trademark free kick, looping the set-piece up and over, with Rulli unmoved and despite La Real’s wall having jumped.

Barca remain nine points clear of Atletico Madrid in second place, Los Rojiblancos having beaten Eibar 1-0 on Saturday.
