Villarreal striker Cedric Bakambu will become the most expensive African footballer of all time due to taxes added onto his move to China.
The Yellow Submarine are set to receive the Congolese striker’s full €40m release clause from Beijing Guoan, but the Chinese Super League club will also have to pay €34m in taxes.
The 26-year-old was already set to eclipse the fees Liverpool paid for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, but the full nature of this new deal will also go higher than the €56m the Reds will pay RB Leipzig Naby Keita.
Bakambu – who has netted 14 goals this campaign - will reportedly earn up to €18m a year at the Chinese club.
