Arsenal: Coquelin joining Valencia

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that midfielder Francis Coquelin will join Valencia.

It comes after reports suggested Valencia had agreed to pay Arsenal in excess of €10m for Coquelin and negotiated a four-and-a-half-year contract for the Frenchman.

“He goes to Valencia because he didn’t get enough games with us this season and he had an opportunity. I let him go,” he said after the Gunners’ 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old signed for Arsenal in 2008 and made 158 appearances for the club, winning two FA Cups.

Despite putting pen to paper on a new deal last season, he has seen just 155 minutes of action in the Premier League in 2017-18.
