Montella ‘sad’ as Sevilla ship five

Vincenzo Montella spoke of his ‘sadness’ after he watched Sevilla go down 5-3 at home to arch-rivals Real Betis in Saturday’s Seville derby.

Goals from Fabian Ruiz, Zouhair Feddal, Riza Durmisi, Sergio Leon and Cristian Tello saw Betis score five against Sevilla in La Liga for the first time ever, and Montella was left to rue his new side losing their first League game on home soil for over a year.

“It was an exciting match, with many goals,” the Coach said after the game.

“We had a great first half. We could’ve scored more goals, but we gifted them two. In the second half, the match was different.

“The game didn’t flow for various reasons. I think the result was a bit unfair, but the club will carry out a lot of work. Still, it bothers me a lot and I’m sad.

“We didn’t expect it, but we saw some positive things, such as our ability to keep the ball.

“I understand the disappointment because I’ve experienced many derbies and I know how it feels.

“I know Sevilla live for these games and there’s a lot of sadness. We have to work hard, but I also know that Sevilla have to be more united than ever.

“We have to improve as a team. I’m not too concerned about the last goal we conceded because we had everyone in attack, plus we conceded two goals in three minutes.

“The entire squad has to work so that we can have a better defensive balance. Transfers? I’ve only been here for a week.

“I’ll talk to the President and sporting director, but I don’t know right this minute.”
