Villarreal Coach Javier Calleja has confirmed he expects striker Cedric Bakambu to join Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan in a €40m deal.
The Congolese striker has been in top form this season, netting 14 goals across all competitions for the Yellow Submarine, but now looks set to depart.
“The deal for Cedric is finished and I expect it to be announced in the next few hours,” Calleja told a press conference on Wednesday.
“There is a clause in his deal which has been activated and whilst we did not wish to sell, we were powerless to stop the deal going through.
“Now we have to look for alternatives in the market.”
Bakambu has netted for 48 goals for the club since joining from Bursaspor in 2015 and will leave to China as his former strike partner Alexandre Pato did last January, but now his release clause at Estadio de la Ceramica has been activated.
