Betis work on Tagliafico deal

Real Betis have had a €4m bid rejected for Independiente defender Nicolas Tagliafico but will renew their efforts for the signing, say reports.

The 25-year-old Argentinean’s contract expires in December 2018 and he reportedly wants a move to European football now, with Los Verdiblancos among his admirers.

Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, of TyC Sports, is cited by El Desmarque as reporting Betis leading the chase for the left-back, but add that Ajax, Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach are also interested.

Tagliafico was said to have been monitored by Sevilla – city rivals of Betis – last summer but the player was not willing to leave his club at that point.

The deal could be facilitated by the expected exit of Romanian full-back Alin Tosca – signed earlier this year – to Greek club PAOK next month.

Tagliafico previously spent one season in Spain’s second tier with Real Murcia, and has spent six seasons in the first-team of Argentinean top flight football, first with Banfield before a 2015 switch to Independiente.
