Florentino hails ‘unforgettable’ year

Florentino Perez believes 2017 will go down as a year that Real Madrid “will never forget”.

Madrid ended the year with five trophies for the first time ever, while their basketball team were similarly successful as they won the Copa del Rey – Los Blancos’ 13th title since 2011.

“2017 is a year that we madridistas will never forget,” the President told the club’s official website.

“It was a year in which the football team won La Duodecima and lifted five titles in total; the Champions League, the club’s 33rd League title, the European Super Cup, the Supercopa and, just a few days ago, our sixth Club World Cup, which we lifted in Abu Dhabi.

“In terms of silverware, this year has been the best in our 115-year history. 2017 has been a year of great joy for all Real Madrid fans.

“We madridistas are proud of our team and Coach, Zinedine Zidane. They are part of Real Madrid’s legend and legacy.

“Our basketball team also clinched the club’s 27th Copa del Rey crown and we’re enjoying an unforgettable period, which has seen us lift 13 titles in six years under Pablo Laso’s stewardship.

“The most important thing is that we’ve achieved all of this all together. Our members and supporters have once again played a crucial role in all of our triumphs, we’ve had their support in every game and each Final we’ve contested.

“We have won these titles as a result of everyone’s togetherness and the values that represent Real Madrid.

“I’ll be spending this Christmas as I do every other year, with my whole family, my children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces and all of my loved ones.

“We wish you great happiness and the all the best for the new year.”
