Lucas Perez jibes at Celta’s Balaidos

Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez has aimed a jibe at regional neighbours Celta Vigo ahead of Saturday’s Galician derby match between the two.

The striker, who rejoined the club from Arsenal on a loan deal earlier this year, claimed Vigo’s mayor Abel Caballero – who’s council own Celta’s Estadio Balaidos – wants to take the club out of the city due to low crowds.

“Even the city’s mayor wants to take the club out of the city,” Perez is quoted as telling reporters by Marca.

“They know they cannot fill the Balaidos and their patience has run out and now they want to relocate.

“The derby will be decided between individual battles across the pitch, the game will be close and I do not believe there is a favourite for this game.

“Form, whether for teams or individuals, are irrelevant in these games as it is about much more than that and the players must understand what this game means.”

Depor currently sit in the relegation zone but a victory at Estadio Riazor would lift them above their regional neighbours on head-to-head record.
