Betis end winless run at Malaga

Real Betis ended an eight-game winless run on Monday night with a 2-0 victory overMalaga, who remain mired in the relegation zone.

Goals from Sergio Leon and Victor Camarasa made the points safe for Quique Setien’s side, while Joaquin’s goal in the first half also crossed the line but was not awarded by the officials.

It was 36-year-old Joaquin, formerly of Malaga, who played in Leon to open the scoring in the 24th minute – his low shot squirming under the hand of goalkeeper Roberto.

Los Verdiblancos thought they’d doubled their lead before the break when Joaquin’s shot was clawed away behind the line by Roberto, but due to the lack of video technology, no goal was given.

Camarasa headed home from close range following Antonio Barragan’s cross five minutes into the second half to seal the points and move Betis up to eighth in the standings and leave Malaga second-from-bottom.
