Zidane hails ‘phenomenal’ Madrid

Zinedine Zidane hailed Real Madrid for another ‘phenomenal’ Final after their 1-0 win against Gremio to clinch the Club World Cup on Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick was enough for Madrid to be crowned world champions for a record sixth time, and Zidane admitted it was ‘crucial’ that the Portuguese ended his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Another performance like this in a Final? It was from the dressing room,” the Coach said after the game.

“We played very well, with intensity, and were phenomenal. They make it very difficult for their opponents, so I’m very happy.

“We’re excited to keep winning. It’s our fifth trophy this year and now it’s time to enjoy it. We have to rest and enjoy the moment, which is very good.”

“The balance sheet is very good because we’ve achieved our objective of winning and playing very good football.

“Suffering is a bit negative, but it’s normal to do it from time to time. Favourite trophy? The League because it’s the most demanding.

“Ronaldo? It’s crucial for us that Ronaldo stays until the end of his career. This is his home. I hope he stays here until the day he retires. We can see what he does for us on the pitch.

“It's a very good time for ‘madridismo’. I don’t know if it’s golden, but we’re doing very well. We’re doing something very important.

“I think the balance sheet is very good. I didn’t expect to match Del Bosque, but I have to congratulate the players because what they’re doing isn’t easy.”
