Joaquin eyes Betis presidency

Joaquin has revealed that “I’d like to be the President of Real Betis” one day and is confident his side “have only driven into a pothole.”

Joaquin returned to Betis in 2015, having started his career at the Benito Villamarin, and the veteran winger expressed a desire “to remain linked to his club for life.”

“I’m happy as a player, but you don’t know what tomorrow has in store. My dream is to remain linked to this club for life,” he told Canal Sur Radio, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

“At this point of a career, you have to take care of yourself more than ever. I’m lucky, I keep doing what I like doing most and competing at this level, which isn’t easy.”

Five defeats in seven games and no win since October have seen Betis plummet to 12th in La Liga, but Joaquin backed his team to arrest their slump against Malaga on Monday.

“We know we can win at Malaga, although it’s true that they’re a team that have emerged from a bad run of form,” added the 36-year-old, who previously turned out for Los Boquerones.

“Still, if we play like we did against Atletico, we’ll have a big chance of winning. Nothing’s happened to Betis.

“We’ve only driven into a pothole, no more than that. We have the same desire we did on the first day of the season, which we’ll show on Monday at Malaga.

“Everyone’s very close in the dressing room. We’re a unit.”
