‘Four minutes for VAR not pleasant’

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane admits waiting “three or four minutes for VAR to make a decision wasn’t pleasant.”

Madrid beat Al Jazira 2-1 to set up a Club World Cup Final with Brazilian side Gremio, but their win was marred by the video assistant referee holding up the first half after it ruled out Casemiro’s header.

“Our performance? There’s little explanation for it,” Zidane said after the game.

“We deserved the victory and reached the Final, and that’s what I’m left with.  The first half was very strange because it was very strange of us not to score.

“After that, we were patient, knowing we were going to have chances. We went through deservedly.

“We needed to stay calm and we won by suffering, but we won. VAR? The referee whistled for an offside, that’s what they told me.

“It took three or four minutes to make a decision and it wasn’t pleasant. You have to get the draw the positives from it all and try to improve it. It all seemed strange.

“Gremio? I watched their semi-fiinal. I don’t know the Brazilian League well, but they’re a good team and we’ll have to raise our game.

“It’ll be a complicated match because there are no easy matches, like we saw against Al Jazira. Now we have to rest.”
