Ter Stegen hails Asenjo return

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has praised his Villarreal counterpart Sergio Asenjo following his return from an ACL injury.

The 28-year-old tore his cruciate ligament for the fourth time in his career earlier this year but has returned to Villarreal’s side and played in their 2-0 defeat to Barcelona.

“During his injury I spent some time with him,” Ter Stegen told reporters, as quoted by Marca.

“It was important for him to return to football after so long out of the game, especially with that being his fourth injury.

“His return is good for La Liga as he is a fantastic goalkeeper and he has fought a lot to return to be on the pitch.”

Ter Stegen was once again impressive in his side’s victory in which he kept another clean sheet.

“When Villarreal had their opportunities, I was in the right place,” he continued.

“It was a very tough match, as it always is here but after the red card we were able to find more spaces and the whole team were excellent defensively.”
