“I want Messi battle to continue” – Ron

Cristiano Ronaldo hopes he and Barcelona counterpart Lionel Messi can continue their professional rivalry for years to come.

The two forwards compete directly for El Clasico rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona on the pitch and they have shared Ballon d’Or titles for each of the past ten years.

The Madrid star’s award on Thursday night in Paris was his fifth title and fourth in five years, equalling Messi’s record and continuing their personal dominance in world football.

“I hope to continue playing at this level for a few more years,” Ronaldo explained as he accepted the award.

“I hope that my battle with Messi continues, for sure. Things happen for a reason but right now I feel good and we’ll see what the clubs win at the end of the year.”
