Abelardo Fernandez believes ‘it is a privilege’ to have been appointed Alaves Coach and has stated the club and its fans ‘deserve more’.
The former Sporting Gijon boss spent one season as a player at the Basque club, who are now on to their third permanent Coach of the season and sit bottom of La Liga.
“I have joined a club who are a family,” he told Alaves’ official website.
“When I was a player with Alaves I got the special feeling that this was a club with strong values and with a family feel.
“It is a privilege for me to be appointed at this club and the hard work starts now – we are not in an ideal situation but this club and group of players deserves more.
“If I did not believe I could improve the situation a lot I would not have come here, so I have faith that we will improve quickly.
“The fans at this club are fantastic and I can identify with them and even in recent times they have stuck by their team with their superb support.”
