Maxi Gomez sale to be agreed ‘this week’

Celta Vigo’s sale of Maxi Gomez to an unnamed Chinese club is set to be completed this week, according to reports in Spain.

The Uruguayan is set to leave the Galician club for a fee between €20m and €25m, according to a report in Marca, and multiply his salary.

Gomez only joined Celta in June from hometown club Defensor Sporting in a €4m deal, and has netted six goals in 12 La Liga appearances.

The 21-year-old was top scorer in the Uruguayan domestic league and his fine start to life at Estadio Balaidos – including a brace on his debut against Real Sociedad – earned him a first international call-up.

Gomez signed a five-year deal at Estadio Balaidos and whilst he is said to have initially been reluctant on the move, the financial incentives and persuasiveness of the clubs involved is said to have played a big role.

Representatives of Defensor are also said to have played a part in the deal, as they will receive 20% of any sale – doubling their profit on the striker.
