Spain have climbed two places in the latest set of FIFA World Rankings into 6th by leapfrogging Poland and Switzerland.
Julen Lopetegui’s side defeated Costa Rica 5-0 before drawing 3-3 with Russia – who will host next summer’s World Cup – to extend the manager’s unbeaten start in charge of La Roja.
Spain will not be seeded for next year’s World Cup despite topping their qualification group, while second-placed Italy failed to qualify altogether after losing their playoff to Sweden.
The top five remain unchanged in the World Rankings, with Germany still ranked as the best team in the world while Chile, who failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, remain in the global top ten.
North Korea were the most improved team, climbing 18 places to 114th, while Laos fell by 22 and are ranked 184th in the world.
Anguilla, the Bahamas, Eritrea, Gibraltar, Somalia and Tonga are jointly ranked as the worst team in the world, with zero points.
