Zaza ‘pain’ ahead of Barca clash

Valencia striker Simone Zaza is a doubt for Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash against Barcelona due to an ongoing knee injury, say reports in Spain.

The 26-year-old has been in sparkling form for Los Che this season – netting nine La Liga goals in 10 starts – but sustained a meniscus tear injury whilst training with his national side earlier this month.

Los Che have since confirmed the Italian international will require surgery on the injury but they are keen on him attempting to play through painkillers.

“Zaza’s had a partial tear in the external meniscus of his knee for a while,” Coach Marcelino told reporters.

“Sometimes it’s blocked and he can’t play. He’s okay for now, but at some point he’ll have to undergo surgery. It can’t be cured with rest.”

Now Marca report he is training through a pain barrier as he does not want to miss the game ‘through any circumstances’ after being an unused substitute in Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Espanyol.
