Bapistao set for injury layoff

Espanyol striker Leo Bapistao could be set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury in Sunday’s defeat against Valencia.

The Brazilian striker was forced off in the 15th minute of the Catalan side’s defeat to high-flying Valencia after feeling tightness in his left quadriceps.

The 25-year-old initially pulled up after running onto a through ball by Jurado and was in no condition to continue, and is set to undergo tests on Monday to examine the extent of the injury.

Bapistao has started all 12 of Espanyol’s La Liga games this season, netting three goals.
