La Liga Wk12: Nolito haunts Celta

Nolito came back to haunt Celta Vigo, Getafe smashed Alaves and Girona made it four games unbeaten in La Liga Week 12.

Girona went into their clash with Real Sociedad on the back of three straight wins, but they fell behind to Willian Jose’s finish in just the seventh minute.

Nonetheless, Cristhian Stuani salvaged a point for the Catalans just after the hour mark, making him responsible for half of his side’s 14 goals this season.

Getafe, meanwhile, took sweet revenge for their Copa del Rey defeat to Alaves, thrashing the strugglers 4-1.

Markel Bergara and Jorge Molina’s penalty gave Geta a 2-0 lead inside only nine minutes of play, before Angel Rodriguez’s fifth and sixth goals of the campaign put them out of sight by the 64th.

Christian Santos’ second strike in as many games pulled one back for Alaves, but it was a case of far too little too late for his side, who suffered their 10th defeat in 12.

Finally, Sevilla consolidated their place in La Liga’s top six with a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo.

Maxi Gomez put speculation of a €20m transfer to China behind him with his sixth goal of the season, but Eduardo Berizzo’s first meeting with his old team ended on a positive note thanks to Luis Muriel and another ex-Celeste, Nolito.
