Preview: Celta-Athletic

Two underachieving sides take to Balaidos on Sunday as both Celta Vigo and Athletic Bilbao desperately need the three points.

Celta boss Juan Carlos Unzue on time possibly running out: “When you join a club with a certain idea, you try to instil it, but I’ve been here for four months.

“I’ve been here for a while now, and I’m at a point where I can have no more excuses.

“We all felt frustrated after the match at La Rosaleda. Athletic’s an important match, which can change our dynamics, and I hope to see a very good performance from the team.

“I also hope we can make our fans happy, given they haven’t seen us win at home for a long time and recently suffered some bad luck [referring to the wildfires].”

Athletic boss Jose Angel Ziganda on facing an old friend: “We’ve known each other since 13-14 years of age.

“It’s going to be a very special game in that sense but one that also finds us in a stressful situation, in terms of needing points.

“We’re very close, as are our families, and we have a tremendous relationship.

“However, each of us will defend our own in the match. We’ll look back on this game differently one day, but we’re not interested in niceties right now.”
