La Liga Wk 11: Valencia march on

Valencia recorded their seventh straight victory in La Liga, Thomas Partey rescued Atletico Madrid again and Alaves finally won at home.

However, Week 11’s action kicked off at the Benito Villamarin, where Real Betis came back to draw 2-2 with Getafe on Friday.

Markel Bergara and Francisco Portillo – against his former team – seemingly fired Getafe to a second straight win.

Yet Antonio Sanabria’s seventh goal of the season was followed by Ryad Boudebouz breaking his Betis duck with three minutes to spare.

Atleti, meanwhile, needed Thomas to bail them out for the second time in a week as they narrowly beat Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 on Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann was taken off after another disappointing display, but the Ghanaian blasted home a free kick in the first minute of injury time to move his side four points clear of fifth-placed Sevilla.

There were no such problems for Valencia, who comprehensively defeated Leganes 3-0.

Dani Parejo opened the scoring to prompt more calls for his inclusion in the Spain squad, before Rodrigo Moreno doubled Los Che’s lead and Santi Mina rounded off the result from the penalty spot.

The result was made all the more impressive by Leganes possessing La Liga’s second-best defence before the game.

Last but not least, Alaves lifted themselves off the bottom with a 1-0 victory over Espanyol – their first of the season at Mendizorroza.

Christian Santos needed barely a minute to secure the three points for Gianni De Biasi’s team, who were helped by Periquitos defender Mario Hermoso seeing red before half-time.
