Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia has admitted the club are working hard to finalise a new deal for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spain international’s deal at the San Mames expires next summer and he has been linked with a move to Real Madrid after previous reports in the Spanish press stated talks had stuttered.

“It should not take long for the parties to come to an arrangement,” Urrutia told Movistar+, as quoted by Marca.

“We are hoping the response to our offer is a positive one.”

The 23-year-old has yet to win a cap for his national side but is now a regular deputy to David De Gea and is excelling at club level after long-standing Athletic goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz left for Girona.
