Catalan FA: Football won’t change

Catalan football would not change in the event the region’s parliament declares independence from Spain, it’s FA’s president has explained.

Andreu Subies was commenting on reports that Girona’s clash with Real Madrid on Sunday could be postponed due to safety concerns alongside reports the regional divisions could be disrupted should independence be declared.

“I think world of football will not change,” Subies explained on Cadena Ser.

“My belief is things will remain the same, all competitions will have to be completed as all the fixtures and commitments are already in place.

“Our intention is to add as much normality to the situation as possible and that means the same volume of football, the politicians may live in a difference place from us.

“Girona’s game with Madrid? As things stand, everything is due to go ahead as normal.”
