De Biasi: Too much punishment

Alaves Coach Gianni De Biasi felt his side were “too heavily punished” by Real Sociedad after their 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

Two late goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Aritz Elustondo ended La Real’s four-game winless streak but, more significantly for Alaves, so did De Biasi’s honeymoon period at the helm.

“We were punished too heavily, I really think that,” he said after the game.

“Nothing can be said about the team because they gave everything and I think we had a good match. That’s what I told the lads.

“We were smart in a tactical sense and we can grow by correcting our mistakes. We’ll do that.

“I told the lads in the dressing room that I was happy about how they played today.

“I liked the team until they conceded the first goal, but I saw the team involved and apply themselves well.”
