Sergio Ramos has reportedly agreed to extend his contract with Real Madrid until 2021.
According to Marca, Ramos has put pen to paper in silence and official announcement of his new deal will be made “any day now”.
The newspaper explains that although the captain has renewed for only a year, he will join Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale “on the podium of Madrid’s best-paid players”.
Ramos joined Los Blancos from Sevilla in 2005 and has gone on to “become more than a player” at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Marca writes that his status stems from “a full understanding” with President Florentino Perez and Coach Zinedine Zidane, as well as a similar grasp of the club’s “idiosyncrasies”.
It represents a stark contrast to two years ago, when talks over an extension with Madrid broke down, amidst links with a move to Manchester United.
