Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar reveals he ‘almost joined’ Atletico Madrid before accepting an offer from Shanghai SIPG earlier this year.
The 26-year-old joined the Chinese Super League club in January after a four-and-a-half year stint at Stamford Bridge but admits he almost joined Diego Simeone’s side.
“When I was talking with Shanghai, I was talking to big clubs from Europe, as well,” Oscar told an interview with Copa 90.
“There was Atletico Madrid, who I almost joined. I liked them very much and what they were offering me at that time.
“There was also Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan.
“I had some options, but I opted for Shanghai and afterwards I can still return to Europe.”
Oscar has won 48 caps for the Brazilian national side.
