Bakambu treble in Calleja’s first win

A hat-trick from Cedric Bakambu ensured new Villarreal boss Javier Calleja got off to a winning start in La Liga at home to Eibar.

The Congolese striker opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a delightful chip over onrushing Eibar goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic following an assist from Manu Trigueros.

The home side’s lead was doubled seven minutes after the break with a sweeping move involving Pablo Fornals and Nico Sansone culminating in the striker firing home his second.

The scoring was complete from the penalty spot fourteen minutes from time after Samu Castillejo had been bundled over in the penalty area by Anaitz Arbilla.

Bakambu converted from the spot as the Yellow Submarine climbed into the top half of the table with their third victory in their last five outings.
