Villarreal frustrated in Israel draw

New Villarreal Coach Javier Calleja was left frustrated in his opening match as his side were held by Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Calleja, who had previously been in charge of Villarreal B, replaced the sacked  Fran Escriba in the club’s hotseat only three days earlier.

However, the Yellow Submarine could not find a way through the Israeli’s side defence who included former Granada and Sporting central defender Jean-Sylvain Babin.

The Spanish side employed a 4-4-2 formation with Cedric Bakambu and Carlos Bacca leading the line but failed to create any clear-cut chances throughout the game.

Villarreal now have four points from their opening two games and now face back-to-back clashes with Slavia Prague.
