Espanyol, Getafe and Celta Vigo all ran riot in Sunday’s La Liga Week 6 action, while Valencia edged out Real Sociedad in a top-of-the-table thriller.
The first clash of the day came at Cornella-El Prat, where Espanyol comprehensively defeated Deportivo La Coruna 4-1.
Leo Baptistao and Alejandro Arribas’ own goal put Espanyol two up before half-time, but their lead was cut by Celso Borges shortly after the restart.
Nonetheless, Gerard Moreno’s brace in the final 20 minutes ended any hopes of a Galician comeback and propelled the hosts into 12th.
Another goal show ensured in the outskirts of the Spanish capital, where Getafe demolished Villarreal 4-0.
It had been a stalemate until the 54th minute, when Angel Rodriguez opened the floodgates.
Jorge Molina and Markel Bergara soon added another two goals for Los Azulones, before Angel completed the rout to condemn the Yellow Submarine to their third loss in six games.
Moving down south, Las Palmas fell to a second straight loss as they were beaten 2-0 by high-flying Leganes.
Claudio Beauvue’s first goal for Leganes broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half, before Javi Eraso clinched the result to keep Los Pepineros in the top six.
Celta, meanwhile, thrashed Eibar 4-0 away from home to ease the pressure on Coach Juan Carlos Unzue.
Eibar were simply no match for Celta, who showed their opponents no mercy, starting with a captain’s goal for Gustavo Cabral on 17 minutes.
The Galicians managed to take a 3-0 lead before the break thanks to Pione Sisto and Pablo Hernandez, followed by a fourth from Daniel Wass midway through the second half.
However, the best was saved for last at Anoeta, where Valencia pulled off a dramatic 3-2 victory over Real Sociedad.
Aritz Elustondo and Mikel Oyarzabal were on hand to cancel out Rodrigo Moreno and Nacho Vidal’s memorable lob for his first Valencia goal.
Yet Los Che didn’t give up as Simone Zaza found the winner with just five minutes left to ensure his side remained unbeaten after six games and in La Liga’s top four.
La Real, on the other hand, lost their third straight game to fall out of the European places.
