Griezi stars in Atletico win at San Mames

Atletico Madrid’s unbeaten start to the campaign continued with an impressive 2-1 victory at Athletic Bilbao.

Goals from Angel Correa and substitute Yannick Carrasco won the points for Diego Simeone’s side, while Jan Oblak saved an Aritz Aduriz penalty and Raul Garcia pulled one back late on.

Atleti enjoyed the better chances in the first half, before a scandalous officiating decision resulted in a penalty to the hosts when Felipe Luis won the ball in a tackle outside the penalty area.

However, Oblak thwarted Aduriz from the spot and second-half strikes from Correa and Carrasco, both following fine team moves, of which Griezmann was an integral part, won the game.

Athletic thought they had cut the deficit just before the 90 minutes were up, but a header was deemed to have been knocked out of Oblak’s hands, and despite Garcia firing home deep in stoppage time, it was too little too late.
