Experienced Coach Javier Aguirre has rejected an approach from Alaves regarding their vacant managerial position.
The Basque club are searching for a replacement for Luis Zubeldia, who was sacked by Sunday after just four games in charge.
Aguirre – a former Coach of Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, Espanyol and Real Zaragoza – is currently without a club after leaving United Arab Emirates club Al Wahda earlier this year.
The 58-year-old, who has also managed his native Mexico along with Japan, was reported by Marca to have been Alaves’ number one target.
Former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is also said to have turned down an approach from Alaves, who have lost all four La Liga games this season without scoring a goal.
