Mendilibar criticises La Liga scheduling

Eibar Coach Jose Luis Mendilibar has hit out at La Liga’s fixture scheduling, stating it’s ‘closer to Africa’ than to England.

The Basque club’s trip to play Sevilla kicks-off at 6.30pm (CET, local time) which has brought about concern due to the intense heat which the game is likely to be played in.

The Eibar tactician has now criticised league chiefs for their desire to prioritise TV rights and money above the needs of clubs and the players.

“I was told me that there might be a chance of changing the kick-off time, but what they choose for television here is hard to change,” Mendilibar is quoted as saying by Marca.

“They (league officials) want to compare against the English league, but the reality is we’re closer to Africa.

“Those who decide the kick-off times have never played one minute of football, but they're the ones who decide things because they of the money.”
